Buried in Woollen, 2013
A site-specific installation as part of AiRM (Art in Romney Marsh) in St Georges, Ivychurch. Inspired by the Act brought in during the 17th century that people were to be buried only in wool, as a way to save the wool industry. The idea of using death as a way to keep an industry alive is a fascinating concept that led me to use the original bier (a wooden structure used to carry coffins at a funeral) and create a way to use that structure to knit a living sculpture that grew over the duration of the exhibition.
